About Dr. Sketchy

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is everything you wish all of your old boring art classes could have been. That is, chilled out afternoons full of beautiful people, killer beats, booze and ridiculous contests / draw-offs.

Dr. Sketchy’s is what happens when Cabaret meets art school. When saucy models meet costume-themed boozefests. When artsy kids meet hip hop sketch clubs.

Houston Sketchy brings our steamy slice of the world a slew of stunning strumpettes to pose for and astound the masses – as well as pass out cool prizes and make fun of people. All that is expected of you is to sketch as you have never sketched before. And maybe have a couple of drinks too.

So where did the Sketchy magic come from anyway?
Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art Club was started by the lovely Molly Crabapple in NYC way back in 2005. After working as a life model and being completely bored to tears, dreams of a happier place for models and artists alike emerged.

With a background as a burlesque dancer and illustrator, it just made sense to Molly to combine her love of drawing and Cabaret with a hip place for models to do their thing. She combed the streets of New York to find the most beautiful burlesque dancers, the most bizarre circus freaks and the most studly statues of men available.

Then, she let her cool artist friends draw them. There was much merriment, bizarre drawing contests and other random games, killer music and good times to be had – all drenched in alcohol and regular themed get-togethers.

And the greatness keeps on rocking on in 40 other cities around the world. Molly and Dr. Sketchy’s legacy continues to grow with the publishing of Dr. Sketchy’s Official Rainy Day Colouring Book, a multitude of press appearances and mentions and a growing community / groupie fanbase.

Hope to see you, notepad and wine glass in hand, at the next Houston Dr. Sketchy gathering. Don’t be lame. Bring your pals. Get ready to sketch.
